Picnic at Cylburn Arboretum
Responding to a call for art from Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, Maryland, I was inspired to create a series of paintings on paper that reflected the arboretum in full spring bloom. I think of them as vignettes, rather than landscape paintings because I feel they are less expansive, more intimate views of the grounds.
In preparation, I walked over the grounds, looking for those areas with a certain play of color, interesting shapes, and linear components. As always, I abstracted the elements to some degree and exaggerated the colors for maximum impact, while keeping the sensibility true to Cylburn.
Watch my website for future updates as I add the entire Cylburn series as well as other recent paintings.
